Job description

ISI Foundation is seeking a system and network administrator to assist in the development and maintenance of the IT infrastructure used in computational research projects. This role will handle the onboarding of new employees, space management and backup. A possibility of working in a research setting will involve managing distributed computing platforms and cloud services. The job will take place in an international environment, and allow flexible hours.

About ISI

The ISI Foundation  is a private research institution located in Turin, Italy. Its mission focuses on promoting scientific interchange and cooperation at the highest degree of quality both in terms of creativity and originality of research. It aims to represent a pole of high-level interdisciplinary training in the fields of Data Science, Complex Systems and Life Sciences with an outstanding record of participation in EU framework research and innovation programs.
More recently, the institute has opened a research line on Data Science for Social Impact. The activity in this domain research is mainly focused on bringing the expertise of ISI researchers in data science, data mining, and machine learning, to the service of non-profit organisations that are working in the field of social innovation, philanthropy, international development, and humanitarian action.

Required Qualifications

  1. Server Management and Administration (OS update/upgrade (e.g. update Debian/Ubuntu), server monitoring, backup, bash shell scripting & automation, RAID disk management)
  2. Networking (network security, monitoring and performance, firewall administration, VPN)
  3. Identity and Access Management (managing user identities and access rights)
  4. Web server configuration (Apache, TLS, WSGI)
  5. Server Virtualization and Remote Administration (VMware, Virtualbox)
  6. Software installation and management (PostgreSQL, MongoDB)

Optional Skills (will be considered as an additional plus)

Cloud Services (e.g. AWS, Dropbox, Github, Google Cloud Platform); Management of distributed computing platforms (e.g. Hadoop, HDFS, Spark); Knowledge of python based web application server and WSGI (e.g. Django, Flask), Distributed computing (e.g. Docker, Amazon EC2), Nvidia/CUDA drivers for deep learning

Physical Requirements / On-call:

Physical presence at the ISI Foundation offices is required, with the remote mode available upon agreement.

Compensation / Kind of contract:

Time commitment and salary will be commensurate with the seniority and expertise of the applicant.
