Social Media Analytics for Youth Unemployment

This project targets the problem of youth unemployment in Italy, whose rate touched 40% in 2014 according to the International Labour Organisation, aiming at improving the current understanding of factors driving active job search, as well as the institutional capabilities of acting on this problem by means of targeted campaigns.

Methodologically, the projects aims to leverage state-of-the-art ideas from computational social science and “Big Data” techniques to develop new capabilities for profiling, engaging and activating youth communities towards their integration in the job market. The sought insights and capabilities are not meant to replace current statistical and demographic approaches, but rather aim at providing complementary signals from social media and online social networks that can used to further empower ongoing efforts .
