Open Position @ ISI: postdoc in brain informatics

Job Description:
The ISI Foundation is looking for an exceptional candidate to fill an open postdoctoral position focusing on the development of new algorithmic data analytics and modelling tools for the study of the networks representing structural and functional brain connectivity. The appointed researcher will work in a multidisciplinary area at the intersection between computational neuroscience, algorithms for network science, graph theory, and topological data analysis under the supervision of Dr. Francesco Bonchi and Dr. Giovanni Petri .

The appointed researcher is expected to design, implement and validate novel graph metrics able to capture temporal, multi-scale and multi-layer patterns in large-scale neuroimaging datasets. The focus will be on the robustness of such metrics under different preprocessing pipelines, on the description of functional graphs as uncertain graphs and on the scalability of information theoretical measures to large-scale brain networks. The aim is to leverage the novel tools to characterize and study the evolution and disruption of brain networks in ageing and in neurodegenerative diseases. As such, the duties of the researcher will range from experimental studies to theoretical and methodological work including the development and testing of computational algorithms.
We welcome applicants with a strong background in computational neuroscience, neuroimaging, network science, graph theory, algorithmic theory, statistical physics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, complex systems, or other closely related fields. Our priority is to attract researchers who are either technically skilled with methods for network analysis and are interested in applying their toolkit asking bold new questions about how our brain works, or coming from the neurosciences and want to position themselves at the forefront of data analysis techniques.

The researcher is expected to produce high quality scientific and technical outputs including journal articles, conference papers and presentations and technical reports.

Required skills:

Ph.D in Computer Science, Computational Neuroscience, Physics or related quantitative field.
Experience in complex networks, statistical mechanics, algorithmic theory or graph theory.
Have good programming skills in at least one of the following languages Matlab, Python, C++.
Fluency in English both spoken and written.
Highly collaborative spirit and personal initiative.
And obviously excellent personal skills.
